New Teaser Details And First Trailer Release Date

Jurassic World Rebirth has released a new teaser, along with a release date for the first trailer.

In the teaser, we see two of the film’s stars, Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, out in the “long grass” (true JP fans know what that means). While Johansson seems distracted by something in front of her, Bailey turns around and sees the long, long trail of a dinosaur that’s just off camera. We hear him breathlessly say, “Oh my god.” And that’s that.

The tagline on the official X post was “Something is coming.” Which is a double entendre for the trailer on Wednesday and whatever dinosaur has the characters so spooked.

This is the official synopsis:

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Johansson, Marershala Ali, and Bailey are all part of a team put together by a pharmaceutical company that wants access to those “colossal creatures”.

From all public information, no one from the previous trilogy is back for Rebirth. That makes sense to me, because the subtext of calling it “rebirth” is that this is a fresh start.

Gareth Edwards Was Inspired By A Different Spielberg Movie

Steven Spielberg, one of the greatest filmmakers ever, directed Jurassic Park and Lost World. After that, the franchise moved far away from Spielberg’s style and intelligence. Which a lot of fans, and critics, have noticed and called out.

The director of Rebirth, Gareth Edwards, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, politely described the difference:

Jurassic Park did lead the way with computer graphics, but I feel like we got lost along the way with the arms race to a spectacle. Jurassic actually only had just a few dozen VFX shots in it, and it’s such a powerful film. So, it was trying to go back to all those tricks and ideas that tease the audience, that creates suspense and tension that get you on the edge of your seat. I just wanted to create that feeling I had when I was young of being in awe of these things.

Elsewhere in the interview, Edwards confirmed that he took inspiration from Spielberg’s whole filmography, especially Jaws.

To me, it’s a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films. There are moments in this movie that remind me very much of
Jaws
. It’s like little greatest hits of all those aspects of his films that I loved growing up as a child. It’s essentially a little adventure odyssey across this island, a survival story, really.
