You ever just want to jumpscare someone by looking at them? It’s a common fantasy, I know. And look, there’s a fantasy game that lets you do just that!
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster has brought something back from yesteryears of gaming – glorious, unrestricted jank. The reveal stream already showcased how they intentionally kept the original strange NPC dialogue in their new release, and as it turns out, the game’s character creator is no different.
Take this post, for instance. A player putting on their best JD Vance cosplay, accurately bringing the vice president’s face to the lands of Cyrodiil, with only a few… adaptations. Very tasteful.
This user, and many of their associates on the Oblivion subreddit, showcase the level of control the player gets to abuse when designing their character for the new game.
Take this other example – a work simply titled “we are so back” offers an immaculate visage for the viewer’s pleasure. Who wouldn’t want to become an adoring fan of this?
That sample of player ingenuity comes from the OblivionAbominations subreddit – it’ll surely be a hotbed for all sorts of abstracted works of art in the days to come.
“The realism and details make it even more nightmare fuel,” one user remarks.
Perhaps one of the most iconic features of the original Oblivion release, one feature that kept it so firmly rooted in public consciousness, even in the shadow of Skyrim, was how endearingly strange everything felt.
Certain lines, from the guards and random civilians alike, coupled with the slightly-robotic movements and facial expressions involved, gave the game an incredible (and unintentional) sense of comedic timing.

Everyone has their own favorite highly-quotable line (I love dogs, doesn’t everyone?), as each clippable moment is shared for the world to see. There’s just nothing quite like Oblivion dialogue – except, of course, remastered Oblivion dialogue.
While this remaster lacks the mod support of previous Bethesda releases, it does aim to keep this adaptation pretty darn faithful. Recapturing how the old game felt, even the awkward bits. Especially the awkward bits.
