Hence, Madara’s goal was to create a society in which no one would experience pain of loss or war ever again through the creation of the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Madara’s desire for peace, though admirable, became corrupted by his vision of what peace should look like.

When Light first discovered the Death Note, his noble intention was to rid the world of all criminals, because the justice system seemed inadequate. Light believed that he could rid the world of criminals and create a utopia in which innocent people could live in peace.

As Light continues to use the Death Note, he begins to see himself as God who has the right to judge life and death. In this vein, he justifies every death by claiming it is for the greater good.

The turning point comes when he begins to target anyone who stands in his way, including innocent people and law enforcement personnel who might inadvertently conflict with his plans.
