Think Pokemon Go but using Kingdom Hearts trappings, with the player able to explore Disney Worlds and fighting the Heartless, all connected through a global map. The player’s attacks were tied to the Disney and Kingdom Hearts characters they could collect.

What Killed Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link?

The official reason given in the announcement was that the developers didn’t think they could provide a satisfactory game over a long period of time, which is something that’s expected of live service titles.

However, the poor performance and death of several other Square Enix mobile games might also have had a hand in the demise of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. Square Enix went hard into mobile titles, throwing all of its big IPs into the mix, and most of them went under.

The fact that Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link also requires Disney’s input, coupled with the bloated development time, could have prompted Square Enix to cut its losses, to the disappointment of Kingdom Hearts fans worldwide.

This means that the wait for Kingdom Hearts IV just got a whole lot longer, as even less footage of that game has been shown. For many fans, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link would fill the gap until they could step into Sora’s giant shoes once more, but with no new mobile title, it’s going to be a bare couple of years.
