Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Adds Warforged

Summary

  • Warforged, a popular D&D species, can be played in Baldur’s Gate 3 via a new mod.
  • Warforged have unique abilities like immunity to disease and bonus to Armor Class.
  • Warforged’s absence in the base game makes sense story-wise, but it missed an opportunity for a compelling narrative.

A fan-favorite Dungeons & Dragons species is playable via a new Baldur’s Gate 3 mod, one that allows the magical machines known as Warforged to be the main character.

While mechanical robots don’t exist in most D&D campaign worlds, there are mystical equivalents known as constructs, where magic is used to give life to inanimate objects. This is the classification that golems and homunculus fall under, mostly acting as mindless servants to their creator’s will.

Not all constructs are thoughtless machines, as some are as sentient as biological beings. Case in point: the Warforged. These machines originated from the Eberron campaign setting, having been created for battle, but escaping that fate and creating a new destiny for themselves in the multiverse.

The Warforged might not be present in Baldur’s Gate 3’s main playable race roster, but a new entry on Nexus Mods (created by Mirrismods) has added them to the PC version of the game through a new mod.

The Bauldarian Warforged race comes with two unique abilities: Constructed Resilience and Integrated Protection. Constructed Resilience makes the character immune to disease and being put to sleep, and Integrated Protection adds a permanent +1 to Armor Class and +2 to Constitution.

These abilities make the Bauldarian Warforged a great choice for a new playthrough, especially martial classes, as the extra defense and hit points are useful for people tackling enemies on the front lines.

Fans can test cross-play between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC as part of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Stress Test.

It’s a shame that Warforged didn’t make it into the base game of Baldur’s Gate 3, as they could have had some amazing story moments with the Gortash storyline in Act III, seeing other constructs used to terrorize the population.

That being said, it makes sense for the story, as it would have been kind of difficult for the Mind Flayer tadpole to attach itself to a brain made of metal. This would explain why the Warforged were relegated to being a mod.
