How To Hunt & Beat Mizutsune

Monster Hunter Wilds is a pretty expansive game with a ton of monsters and variations to hunt and turn into gear. Even with that giant roster, the game isn’t slowing down any time soon.

With Title Update 1, the game has added in a brand-new monster to hunt, the bubble-blowing bandit Mizutsune. This slippery fox brings some new mechanics to the game along with it, so before you jump in and drive it to extinction, you might want to be prepared.

Now, on to the good stuff, so we can get you hunting this goofy guy sooner rather than later. Just remember, there’s no sure-fire shot at victory, but with the right mindset and the necessary tools, any fight can be overcome.

How to Hunt Mizutsune

If you want Alma’s permission to hunt this bubbly beast, you’ll need to be at least Hunter Rank 21. Once there, a special blue exclamation point should appear on the environment overview of the Scarlet Forest.

Head to base camp and beeline it to the back fishing spot where Kanya is waiting with the same icon over her head. Once you start talking, you’ll be locked into the side quest, so make sure this is what you want, or you’ll have to abandon the quest.

Alma will show you the way to your battleground, and after a quick cutscene, it’s time to hunt.

How to Beat Mizutsune

This slippery fox is a bit of an interesting addition to the roster. It isn’t incredibly difficult at its base level, but it does stay on the move and keeps you at bay with constant bubble baths.

Before we dive into the actual fight, let’s cover some of the basic aspects of the encounter ahead. Mizutsune actually has three elemental weaknesses, which means you’ve got some choice in how you tackle it.

• Thunder is the most effective of the three elements against Mizutsune.
• Dragon is the second most effective, but not readily available at lower levels.
• Ice is the least effective, but will certainly get the job done.

Avoid using Sonic Bombs since they’ll have no effect, but Flash Pods and traps work just fine.

If you have any water gear, you’ll probably want to use it since there are so many bubbles. It can get tough to dodge in the heat of battle, so make sure you stay on your toes.

With so many bubbles on the field, we should cover the types and how they work.

• Regular – This bubble will inflict you with Bubbleblight and do a small amount of damage.
• Pink – This will do some damage and cause you to stagger.
• Red – Provides a slight damage boost in addition to usual damage.
• Green – Provides a small healing effect.

If you’re using a ranged weapon, you can easily pop the bubbles as they come at you, but if you’re a melee user, they’re a bit harder to pop. Mizutsune will send out bubbles at random intervals, but the move you need to watch out for is called Bubble Whirlpool.

Much like its namesake, this move creates a ton of bubbles and shoots them out all over the area. Your best bet is to either pop these suckers or stay on the move.

While enraged, the Mizutsune does something fascinating—it starts to set bubbles on fire. Now, these bubbles pack a good punch and deal Fireblight damage, so avoid them if you can.

Overall, your best bet is to stay on the move and get the hits where you can. My personal advice is to beat down its face since it has a four-star weakness to cut and blunt damage there, meaning you can pretty easily put it on its back.
