How To Beat Bile Titans

Battling the Terminid threat in Helldivers 2 can be a complicated affair. This is especially true when a few chargers and multiple Bile Titans get thrown into your already exhausted team, but Super Earth depends on your success, so slaying those Titans will become a priority.

Bile Titans are gargantuan, four-legged Terminid insects that can easily vaporize or crush an oblivious Helldiver. These towering monstrosities are practically impervious to small arms fire, are fairly fast for their large size, and require dedicated weapons to bring them down. Despite those challenges, with this guide, you’ll learn how to slay these beasts and teach them the ways of managed democracy.

Strategies For Beating A Bile Titan

Your overall strategy boils down to kiting the Bile Titan and staying as far away from it as much as possible. A single stomp or a few ticks of its acid spray will result in a very dead helldiver. Use terrain to make the Bile Titan struggle to keep up with you (it gets confused if you put large rocks between yourself and the titan) and use turrets to draw its attention to something else that isn’t you. Ideally, you’ll want sprint until you run out of stamina, then walk to recover stamina. When the Bile Titan catches up to you, sprint just before it attacks. The Autocannon turret is a great solution here since it can hurt the Bile Titan and distract it long enough for you to call down a stratagem to help you.

Use An Anti-Tank Weapon For Bile Titan Slaying

This strategy is the most straightforward – equip the Expendable Anti-Tank gun (EAT), Recoilless Rifle, or Railgun and fire away. These weapons will penetrate through its tough hide and deal a good chunk of damage. You’ll also want to support this strategy by using other stratagems like airstrikes to help drop the Titan faster. The Recoilless Rifle will be the hardest to use since you won’t have too many opportunities to reload it when the Titan is chasing you. However, if you’re playing with at least one other diver, they can distract the TItan for you to buy you time to reload and safely take a shot at it.

While it’s not a bad idea to have your partner take the support pack to reload your Recoilless Rifle, it usually takes too long for them to run over to you and reload your weapon. Having your partner be a distraction is an easier strategy to consistently pull off.

For the EAT, you’ll want to hit it with 5 or more shots either into its underbelly, or its head for maximum damage. You should be able to run around and dodge the Titan’s attacks to buy more time so you can call down more EATs during the fight, or use other stratagems to soften up the Bile Titan between anti-tank gun calls.

The Railgun has the easiest time out of these three guns since you can theoretically one-shot the Titan with an overcharged Railgun shot straight into its mouth. While it’s nice to have that happen, more realistically, you’ll be sending anywhere between 3-7 overcharged Railgun shots into the Bile Titan’s head to bring it down. This strategy is much easier to do since you don’t have to rely on anyone else, and it can be done from a safer distance than the EAT and Recoilless Rifle.

Use Heavy Hitting Stratagems

Large heavy-hitting stratagems like the 50kg bomb can make quick work of a Bile Titan. The only issue is keeping the titan in place long enough for that to happen. Using the Orbital Laser and Orbital Railgun fixes that problem, but these two stratagems have some drawbacks as well. The Laser can only be used three times and, unlike the Eagle stratagems, it will not recharge once fully used up. Additionally, the Orbital Laser may not kill the Bile Titan if it moves too much, so make sure you shoot at the titan periodically to make it slowly turn toward you, or to convince it to sit still and shoot acid at you.

Alternatively, the Railgun has unlimited usage and a shorter cooldown, but it will sometimes leave the Bile Titan limping after you instead of outright killing it. Keep an eye out for that and be prepared to unload some heavier ammunition into the wounded Titan to finish it off.

Avoid It Altogether

Bile Titans are big and will move awkwardly around large terrain. If the titan has nothing to do with your objective, you could very easily just ignore it and complete the mission. To do this, navigate yourself close to large pieces of terrain or swarms of enemies. You’re looking for anything that can force the Titan to look for an awkward path around if it wants to reach you. If you’re by yourself and being chased by a Bile Titan, run away until your stamina bar is empty. Then, when the Titan catches up to you, keep an eye out for what attack it’s going to do and immediately continue sprinting to avoid it.

The Bile Titan will drop everything it’s doing to target a turret. You can drop a turret near the Titan then leave the area as quickly as possible to shake the giant bug off your tail.

At close range, the Titan will do one of three moves – a single quick stomp, a series of stomps, or an acid spray. Ideally, it does a series of stomps because you can sprint out of the way, then recover your stamina while it’s busy stomping. The Bile Titan will let out a distinct roar before it stomps. When you hear that roar, that’s your cue to start sprinting.

The Acid spray is the most problematic attack to dodge because it has a surprisingly long range, a wide turning arc, and the audio cue from the Bile Titan can be on the quieter side. Keep an eye on what the Titan is doing, and sprint away/dive just as it rears back to spray acid. Putting terrain between you and a Titan also helps ensure this attack is sprayed into a wall instead of at your Helldiver’s fragile human body.

Bile Titan Weak Points

The glowing green areas on the titan’s underbelly are weak spots and can be harmed by small arms fire. Explosive weapons will deal bonus damage to these spots. However, be aware that these spots will break after enough damage, and you’ll have to figure out another way to harm it.

Another weak spot is its head and, more specifically, its mouth. When it opens its mouth to roar or attack, you can shoot at it for more damage. This is a dangerous tactic, but it’s still good to know so you can squeeze in damage wherever you can.

Desperation Tactics

Running away from a Bile Titan and a Charger in Helldivers 2

When all else fails and you need to do something drastic to take down the titan, these aren’t bad options to use.

Landing A Hellpod Onto The Titan

If a Bile Titan ever catches you, you’re going to see a death screen sooner than you’d think. When that happens, your friends (or if you’re playing solo, the game) can respawn you near the Titan so you have a chance at crushing it with a hellpod. This isn’t a one-shot and it’ll take a few hellpods to take down a full-health titan, but if you need a wounded Bile Titan dead, and you’ve already lost a helldiver or two, you might as well aim your pod into this bug’s body.

Purposeful Out-of-bounds Artillery

When you stay out of the zone for long enough, you’ll be labeled a traitor to Super Earth and artillery will rain down from the sky in an attempt to blast your traitorous soul back to where it belongs. With this knowledge, you could run yourself toward the Bile Titan and hope the artillery takes you both out. If you stay underneath the large bug, its legs will struggle to hit you, and its body will shield you from the worst of the artillery (sometimes). Be aware that this tactic is the most desperate and inconsistent plan a Helldiver can use, and every other option should be exhausted before even considering this.
