Every week, Pokemon GO players can participate in a Spotlight Hour event. These events give players the chance to catch specific Pokemon at greatly increase rates. There isn’t usually an increased shiny chance, but the sheer number of featured Pokemon spawning in the wild makes it worth playing for players hoping to catch a shiny.
Pokemon GO: How To Get Prime Gaming Partner Research
Amazon Prime Gaming is partnering with Pokemon GO to bring players Partner Research. Here’s how to activate it and obtain the Pokemon Drampa.
This week, players will have four different Pokemon to catch during the Spotlight Hour! This is an oddity, as Spotlight Hours usually focus on one Pokemon. These four Pokemon will be out in droves, so players should take advantage of the opportunity and catch as many as possible!
Can Vulpix, Poliwag, Snorunt, & Hippopotas Be Shiny?
This Spotlight Hour is going to be a great one for shiny hunters! While there are no increased shiny odds, each of the four Pokemon featured has its shiny form available in the game. This means players can catch all of the Pokemon spawning in high numbers for a chance at any of the four shinies shown above! The base and shiny sprites for each of the featured Pokemon can be found below so players have a better idea of what to look out for when catching, though a shiny will be hard to miss if it pops up on the screen.
Spotlight Hour Bonus
Each Spotlight Hour will net a different bonus for participating players to enjoy. This week, players will get double the XP for catching Pokemon. Throwing on a Lucky Egg before the event probably won’t be worth it since players can gain far more XP from events like Raid Days, but it is still worth catching as many Pokemon as possible during the event hours!
Mega Pokemon Boost
Mega evolving a Pokemon before an in-game event (i.e. Community Day, Spotlight Hour, etc.) can allow players to get additional Candy for each catch, as long as its typing matches that of the caught Pokemon. With most Spotlight Hours, there is a clear choice of Mega Pokemon since there is usually one featured Pokemon with a pre-determined type.
Since this Spotlight Hour features four different Pokemon, players should Mega evolve the Pokemon that matches the type of the Pokemon they want bonus Candy for. Each featured Pokemon can be found below, along with a list of Mega Pokemon that will net additional Candy for each catch!
Mega Pokemon For Vulpix
Vulpix is a Fire-type Pokemon, so players hoping to gain additional Candy for each catch should bring along a Fire-type Mega Pokemon. The best choices for this are Mega Houndoom, Mega Blaziken, and Primal Groudon. These Pokemon will all give players bonus Candy for each Vulpix catch.
Mega Pokemon For Snorunt
Snorunt is an Ice-type Pokemon. This is a bit unfortunate, as there aren’t many Ice-type Mega Pokemon currently in Pokemon GO. Players that want additional Snorunt Candy should look to Mega Glalie and Mega Abomasnow for the bonus.

Mega Pokemon For Poliwag
If you’re hunting for Poliwag Candy, the best Pokemon to Mega (or Primal) evolve are Primal Kyogre, Mega Swampert, and Mega Gyarados. These Pokemon all share the Water-typing with Poliwag and will result in bonus Candy on each catch! The Mega evolutions of each Pokemon can be seen below.
Mega Pokemon For Hippopotas
The best Mega Pokemon to bring out, if you’re hunting for Hippopotas Candy, would be Mega Swampert, Mega Garchomp, and Mega Steelix. This is because each of these Mega Pokemon shares the Ground-type with Hippopotas and will give players extra Candy for each Hippopotas catch! The sprites of each mentioned Mega evolution can be found below.
