With Cannoneer’s arrival as a new Tower Troop in Clash Royale, the depth of tactics and strategies in the game has been increased, as you can now make changes to the last line of your defense. Although Cannoneer still needs some more balance changes to become as effective as Archer, there are already some good decks that can make use of this new defensive unit.

Thanks to Cannoneer’s high shot power, you can now get rid of units such as Mini Pekka, Valkyrie, or Mega Knight by spending less Elixir than before, though the new Tower Troop has its vulnerabilities. The decks below will try to use the defensive power of Cannoneer while giving you a winning edge over the opponent if you learn the timing of play correctly.

Barbarians On The Line

• Relatively weak against Giants

While this deck is significantly strong in the air, it heavily relies on Barbarians on the ground. Placing Barbarians in the Evolution Slot does give you a winning edge, but you really need to be careful with how you use this 5-Elixir card. It is crucial to support Barbarians with The Log and an airborne unit, as they are pretty vulnerable against spam or other low-cost units such as Valkyrie, Golden Knight, or even Bats.

The timing for these deployments is crucial, as you need the target tower to lock on Miner rather than Might Miner. While the Miner takes hits, you need to support Mighty Miner with Arrows or Freeze until he reaches the opposing Crown Tower.

Even though the attack above is quite deadly, it requires a significant amount of Elixir, which is why you need your Elixir Collector deployed as soon as the match begins. The collector will prove its value in the Double-Elixir phase, where you can rapidly deploy troops and out-Elixir your opponent.

If your opponent is using a Cannoneer as a Tower Troop like you, this deck is a great Cannoneer killer! While it is quite strong at denying spam rushes, thanks to Valkyrie and Magic Archer, it is also a great deck to surround the opponent’s Cannoneer with a crazy amount of troops to deal with. However, you need to learn the right way of deployment.

If you decide to deploy all your spam troops at the same time, it is simply suicide as they can all be wiped with a simple spell like Arrows or Poison. You do need to spawn each spam troop at a time, and let the opponent deal with it first. So, your Skeleton Army may be countered by The Log, and your Bats could be dealt with by Arrows, but it’s quite unlikely the opponent has anything left to counter your Minion Horde. It’s always best to accompany your final spam attack with Miner, so that you can distract the Crown Tower away from the spam units.

Mortar Goes Brrr

Most Cost-Effective Deck

• Quite a defensive-minded deck
• Weak against massive airborne rushes

Even after getting its Evolution treatment, Mortar still does not receive much love from the community, but when you use it on the right deck, the ranged attacker becomes a force to be reckoned with. While this deck is quite cost-effective, it also gives you two options to damage the opponent’s towers without crossing the bridge: Mortar and Princess.

That being said, Princess should be used with a defensive mindset to neutralize spam rushes, especially the ones that target Mortar, as your first line of attack. Skeleton King and Valkyrie, on the other hand, are your next options for defensive scenarios and counter-attacks. Both Bats and Spear Goblins could be great spam units to rush over the bridge if the opponent uses a Cannoneer as well. Otherwise, you can add them to your defensive options.

Dark Army

• Effective against spam rushes
• Not as economic as previous decks

No matter if you are playing against a Cannoneer or an Archer as a Tower Troop, this deck is strong enough to come out victorious against either of them. Thanks to Mother Witch, any spam rush from the opponent’s side can be easily turned into a counter-attack. Baby Dragon and Firecracker are your next options to keep things safe both in the air and on the ground.

Electro Wizard will be your main tower crusher on this deck, but of course, it needs to be supported by a unit such as the Dark Prince to remain strong enough to deal damage to the opponent’s crown towers. Although this deck is not as cost-effective as other entries on the list, it’s quite effective in most scenarios. So, if you don’t begin an all-out attack before the Double-Elixir phase, your enemies will have a hard time playing against this deck.
