Borderlands 4’s World Will Be Seamless And If You Can See It, You Can Go To It
Speaking at a PAX East 2025 panel (via Retbit), Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford mentioned Borderlands 4 is “by the biggest universe that we’ve built,” and added that “it’s seamless” and how “there’s no load times.”
Pitchford even borrowed a page from Todd Howard’s playbook. Back when Bethesda was marketing Skryim, Howard claimed that what players saw in the distance in Skryim would be accessible by the character in-game and wasn’t just a backdrop. Pitchford made similar claims for Borderlands 4. “You see something anywhere on the screen, a mile away, up in the sky, you will be able to get there.”
Borderlands 4 is set in Kairos, a planet previously inaccessible in previous Borderlands games, and based on Pitchford’s claims, this will be the biggest game in franchise history.

From Pandora to the Wonderlands, the Borderlands games are full to the brim with ludicrous side quests.
At the same panel, Pitchford admitted that he doesn’t know the price of Borderlands 4 yet. This is something people are curious about since Mafia: The Old Country, a game by Borderlands publisher 2K Games, will be released at a lower price point, which is refreshing to see in today’s gaming landscape.
What Pitchford does know is the release date of Borderlands 4 being moved up had nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto 6, which was made even clearer this past week when Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K Games, confirmed that GTA 6 will be released on May 26, 2026.
Borderlands 4 will be released on September 12, 2025 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
