Dulled Steel, Cold Forge Quest Walkthrough

Many of the quests in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are intertwined. Typically, you’ll have to have one quest completed to open up a particular side quest. Though sometimes there are quests that appear randomly no matter how much you’ve progressed in the game.

As for the Dulled Steel, Cold Forge quest, there are a couple prerequisites for you to complete prior to this quest being available. This quest is pretty straight forward, though it will involve a lot of travel, so make sure you have a camping kit with you if you wish to avoid night travel.

About Dulled Steel, Cold Forge Quest

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character is speaking to Roman about the Dulled Steel, Cold Forge quest.

This quest will most likely only be available after you’ve completed the tasks Captain Brant has assigned you, such as the Caged Magistrate, Seat of the Sovran, The Stolen Throne, and Disa’s Plot quests. These are all main quests, so just follow the main story until you complete them. Once those are completed, leave Vernworth for a couple of days before returning.

Upon your return to Vernworth, go to the Royal Quarters courtyard and make sure you go when it’s daytime. Roman will be the guard who will tell you to seek out Captain Brant for a quest. Follow this guard to a secluded area, so he can tell you more about the quest.

You will be given the ancient Regalia Sword and must repair it. The rich history of this sword claims that it’s a ceremonial blade and used by the Vermund rulers. It can apparently only be wielded by Sovran. Unfortunately, you will not be able to keep this sword once this quest is completed. After being given the task, seek out the blacksmith in Vernworth.

Speak With Roderick About Blade

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character is speaking to the Smithy in Vernworth, Rodrick about restoring the Regalia Sword.

The blacksmith, Roderick, will be located in the marketplace running his blacksmith shop in Vernworth. After you tell him about the blade, he will unfortunately tell you that it’s beyond his ability to repair it. However, he will tell you of a dwarf located in Battahl that is basically a living legend. Roderick is confident this dwarf will be able to help you restore this blade.

Traveling To Battahl

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character is showing the map and how to get to Battahl.

To gain entry to Battahl, there are a few requirements you must complete, if you haven’t already, before continuing your journey to repair the sword. The following are some steps to follow, so you can gain entrance to this area and meet with the dwarf to repair the blade.

  • Follow the main story and complete Feast of Deception. Note that completing this quest will end any other quests you have for Brant. This will begin the Journey To Battahl quest.
  • You will now have a permit and must travel to Checkpoint Border Town using an oxcart. If you’re human, purchase a Beastren Mask from the trader Georg for 8,700 Gold.
  • Equip the mask and show the guard your permit when you’re at the gate to get into Battahl.
  • Alternatively, you can reach Battahl from Checkpoint Rest Town by following the road south, or towards the bottom of your map. This will be a dangerous path, however, with enemies lurking.

Find Brokkr The Blacksmith

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character found Brokkr the dwarf blacksmith in Bakbattahl.

The dwarf Brokkr will be located in the southern part of Bakbattahl. When you approach him about the sword, he will quickly look it over before telling you that he no longer forges weapons and is unable to help you. When he is urgently called away, speak with his assistant Sara, she will be willing to help you.

Gather Some Glimmercole

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character is gathering some Glimmercole for Sara to repair the Regalia Sword.

Sara requires 15 Glimmercole, which you must bring back to her for her to help you restore this sword. Travel to the Digger’s Ruins which, as long as you’re tracking the quest, should be marked on the map. It will be not far from Bakbattahl. Take the west exit from the town, then head south.

Continue straight down this path, and when you come to the first Y, veer to your left. Follow that all the way down, and take a sharp left to continue towards the ruins. Take this turn instead of going straight. At the end of that path, you will come to the Digger’s Ruins.

In the ruins, you will look for a green glow that is very bright in the dark ruins. If you have any light emitting from you such as from a lantern, this will dim the glowing green light this mineral emits. Watch out for variants called Glymercoles that are completely different and are actually fake.

To tell the difference, if the ore is fake, it will give you the prompt to “Examine” rather than “Gather”. Glymercoles also seem a lot dimmer compared to the bright glow of the real Glimmercoles. Stay alert as there might be a Goreminotaur lurking in the cave. It’s best to gather the Glimmercole in a hurry, then rush to the entrance of the cave and leave.

Deliver Glimmercole To Sara

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character delivered Glimmercole to Sara so she can repair the Regalia Sword.

When you give the Glimmercole to Sara, she will ask you if you need help forging it and that’s when you agree to let her help you. This quest will change to Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge. Leave for a few days then return and report to Sara.

She will most likely tell you that she hasn’t made much progress and will need more time due to needing a Blazehammer. After she’s done talking, the quest will update, telling you that you learned of a special smithing technique. Leave for a few more days, then come back.

However, when you arrive at Brokkr’s Smithy this time, you will be confronted by Brokkr because Sara has disappeared. Apparently, she left to repair the sword, but she’d been gone since the previous day. On your map, the Mountain Base Cave will be marked. This will be southeast of Brokkr’s Smithy.

Locating Sara

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character found Sara who was forging a warhammer.

When you reach the cave, be sure to defeat all enemies you come across as they will only get in the way after you speak with Sara. It will be time-sensitive to get the hammer out of the cave before it cools. After you leave the cave, Sara will talk to you for a minute before using the warhammer on the anvil. Then you can make your way back to Brokkr’s Smithy. Back at Bakbattahl, Sara will give you the restored Regalia Sword.

Report Back To Roman

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character is reporting back to Roman after restoring the Regalia Sword.

Head back to Vernworth to deliver the sword to Roman. He should be located within the Royal Quarters. As mentioned, you are unable to keep the sword and must hand it back to him. Once you hand the restored sword over, the quest will be completed.

Rewards

The Dragon's Dogma 2 character is receiving gold and XP for completing the Dulled Steel, Cold Forge quest.

You will be highly rewarded for completing this task. After Roman is done talking, you will receive 35,000 Gold and 6,000 XP.
