Dune Awakening Testers Urge Caution After Latest Delay

Summary

  • Dune: Awakening delayed to June 10 for more polishing and stability fixes.
  • Beta players concerned about inadequate foundation and technical issues.
  • Flashy combat livestream doesn’t alleviate worries; community calls for improvements.

Funcom just pushed Dune Awakening back three weeks, but players who have sunk hundreds of hours into the beta still think it needs more time. Today’s flashy combat livestream may have shown off sand-slicing flair, but it only reaffirmed the real issue for testers.

Dune: Awakening was originally set to launch on May 20 but will now release on June 10, 2025, on PC. A Deluxe or Ultimate Edition pre-order gives you early access to the game starting June 5.

“We want to ensure the game sticks the landing. This is multiplayer survival on a massive scale. We’re making gameplay and technical strides not seen in the genre before,” read a public statement from Funcom.

June 10 Could Make or Break Dune: Awakening

Funcom says it needs three more weeks to polish key systems and implement stability fixes. It also plans to hold a large-scale open beta weekend next month to test servers and reassure the wary fan base. The three-week delay doesn’t seem to have rattled the community:

“I won’t complain about a delay; it’s the smartest thing to do.”

However, veteran beta players believe Funcom needs more time to work on foundational readiness.

“As someone who’s testing Dune: Awakening, has 200 hours, and has done all of the content—I wish they would delay it longer.”

Today’s deep-dive footage of the game’s melee and ranged combat systems, including armor damage and disarming mechanics, only reinforced those concerns. The comments section echoed most of the testing feedback.

Some of the sticking points include animation stutters, NPC desync, input lag, AI inconsistency, collision bugs, and more that need a fix within such a short period:

“Once people see the horrid performance, it’ll be June: Rude Awakening.”

There’s surely a massive expectation riding on Dune: Awakening, mostly due to the Dune IP. Therefore, Funcom needs to be ready with server performance, stability, and core systems to avoid brutal consequences faced by the likes of The Day Before and XDefiant.

Hopefully, Funcom will turn this delay into tangible progress and squeeze in last-minute fixes.
