A week after Rockstar Games released the Enhanced version of GTA 5 on Steam, users aren’t too happy with the experience.
Despite including new features such as ray tracing, faster load times, higher frame rates and resolutions, and more, fans aren’t happy with how the free upgrade is performing.
At the time of writing, its user rating is “Mixed,” with over 20,000 user reviews on Steam. To give you an idea of how unhappy fans are, hundreds of reviews were added while writing this post over the past 30 minutes.

Players cannot bring over their accounts into the Enhanced Edition, which means, in many cases, they’re losing hundreds of hours of progress.
“‘The GTA Online profile associated with this Rockstar Games account is not eligible for migration at this time,'” one user review says. “If you think I’m throwing away nearly 700 hours of gameplay on one character so that you can make a few more bucks off me, then you [have another thing coming]. This is an objective downgrade from the ‘old’ version. Gonna pretend this was never released & continue to enjoy Legacy version until the new game comes out when I’m 60.”
Rockstar Also Saw Backlash Over the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition Trilogy
When the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition trilogy was released in 2021, it was met with a massive backlash.
While modern updates to the GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas were certainly needed, the Definitive Edition games were unplayable, suffering from technical issues, poor frame rate, and constant crashing.
Rockstar has done an excellent job of addressing these concerns. While user reviews are still below Rockstar’s standards, especially for Grand Theft Auto III, recent reviews are “Mostly Positive,” with most negative reviews pointing out that the core gameplay feels dated today.

The GTA Definitive Edition Is Finally Kind Of OK
Well, on mobile anyway.
Again, most of the issues from the GTA 5 Enhanced Edition is about not being able to migrate accounts: “I’m leaving a negative review mainly due to the Rockstar deciding that some accounts should arbitrarily not be able to migrate, and if you ask for help from support, they just say they can’t do anything about it.” If Rockstar can address these issues, then I imagine the fan reaction will improve.
