Baldur’s Gate 3 has some magical items that allow you to do some pretty wondrous things. Through the use of magic, a Wizard, Druid, Bard, or even a Fighter can become far more powerful and versatile.
As you make your way through the game, you will encounter various obstacles that you will need to overcome, and violence isn’t always the answer. When you are faced with a hostile animal, there is only one spell to turn to: Animal Friendship.
Luckily, you won’t need to waste a spell slot if you have the Beastmaster’s Chain. Let’s break down how you can get your hands on this useful item in Baldur’s Gate 3.
What is The Beastmaster’s Chain in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Beastmaster’s Chain is an uncommon amulet in Baldur’s Gate 3 that grants the wearer the ability to cast the Animal Friendship spell. The Animal Friendship spell allows you to befriend a hostile creature, convincing it not to attack you in the process.
Unlike the name suggests, this spell is mostly a utility spell that is used outside of combat during dialogue, making it great for characters who can use the Speak with Animals spell.
If you are playing as a Druid, you will get some good use out of this amulet, but it can still be used by other characters who have the Speak with Animals spell cast on them.
There are a few stipulations with the Animal Friendship spell:
- The creature must have an Intelligence score of three points or less.
- An ally cannot hurt the creature, or it will break the spell.
- Depending on the difficulty, the creature you use the spell on may become hostile when it ends.
There are a limited number of areas where you can utilize this amulet in Baldur’s Gate 3. Some areas where this amulet can be used include the confrontation with the Owlbear, interacting with the squirrel in the grove, and interacting with Scratch.
The ideal is to always have the amulet equipped when interacting with an animal.
Where to Find The Beastmaster’s Chain in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Beastmaster’s Chain in Baldur’s Gate 3 is located inside the Shattered Sanctum in Act One. This is the main building that you access via the Goblin Camp and is involved in multiple main quests, such as killing the Goblin leaders and rescuing Halsin.
After entering the Shattered Sanctum, stick to the right and make your way to the back right corner of the Sanctum. This path will lead you past where Volo is being held captive and where the follower of Loviatar is.
Follow the path along the wooden platform to another section of the Sanctum with a door leading to the Worg Pens. Inside the Worg Pens, you will find a group of Goblins, as well as Halsin in his bear form.
Most likely, a fight will break out in this room, which is normal while you are freeing Halsin from his captors. After the fight, you will be able to obtain the Beastmaster’s Chain by looting the chest up the stairs near the table with limbs on it.
If you do not fight the Goblins right away, you can attempt to loot the chest, but you will get in trouble if you are caught doing so. Because of this, I recommend waiting until after you have eliminated the Goblins to obtain your prize.
