How To Get Threefold Pin Throwing Daggers

Like the original game before it, Hollow Knight: Silksong is a Metroidvania with Soulslike elements that’s based primarily around melee combat with a sharp object. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that constant, close-range slashing will be your only means of dealing damage.

From time to time, you’ll have the option to discover some nice, handy ranged weapons. The problem is, a lot of these are usually at least moderately well-hidden, so you might not ever pick the most useful ones up unless you really know where to look.

Of course, you could also look up a guide to help with these sorts of things. And what do you know? I’ve got one right here for you. Here’s where to locate the Threefold Pin Throwing Daggers in Silksong so you can get some distance between you and the baddies.

Hope you like birds, because you’re going to be fighting a lot of them.

Where To Find The Threefold Pin

You locate the Threefold Pins in Greymoor, which I’d argue serves as a bit of a skillcheck in Act 1 of Silksong. At least, it was for me. This includes a super tough fight with a boss named Moorwing, so you might as well get as prepared as possible.

First, you want to head to the right as far as you can. You’ll eventually hit a locked gate, but don’t sweat it. Drop into the water and swim across to the other side, then retrace your steps back to the gate, hit the lever, and pop the gate open for future convenience.

Next, you’ll want to head into the building that features the “Enter” prompt.

Once inside the building, get to the top, and be greeted with a wave battle featuring five separate rounds of bird-slaying chaos. Each round is as follows:

  • Round One: Rotund bird with throwing daggers + Small flying bird
  • Round Two: Two small flying birds
  • Round Three: Tall bird with needle + Small flying bird
  • Round Four: Three small flying birds
  • Round Five: Rotund bird with throwing daggers + Tall bird with needle

I’m not going to lie, this bird gauntlet is pretty grueling. Luckily, you passed a rest stop with the cartographer on your way here, so your runback won’t be too bad as you work towards winning this tough fight.

Once victorious, a balloon will spawn in the middle of the arena. Use your downward diagonal slash attack to bound upward, then hit the lever at the top of the room.

Now, head back outside this building.

Once you’re back outside, you’ll notice that many additional balloons have inflated, and there are paths of them leading upwards. Using the balloons on the left and diagonal slash-attacking them, start making your way up. There are safety platforms along the way to act as pseudo-checkpoints, so try to land on these if you happen to miss a bounce and fall back down.

Oh, and it’s probably best to take out all the pesky birds along the way, unless you want to end up being swarmed by several at once.

You’ll eventually reach this location on the left side of this room shown on the map in the picture gallery above. Flip the lever on the platform above to open the gate below, then platform all the way up this string of balloons surrounded by spikes. Oh, and if you thought you’d be free of the birds by now, guess again. Continue taking them out along the way.

Make your way to the very top of the map. From here, you’ll want to get to the platform on the right, then drop down and float all the way to the extreme right to reach another platform below, which is guarded by one of the tall birds with the needle weapon.

Kill the bird for safety, then continue even further right into what looks like the edge of the map. Here, you’ll find a secret door, leading to a secret room with some rosaries and an item to pick up.

This item is the Threefold Pin, a tool that can be equipped the next time you’re at a bench.

How To Use The Threefold Pin

The Threefold Pin will be slotted into the red section of your crest loadout. You’ll also notice that you’ll be given ten at a time to use. This number refreshes back to ten whenever you rest at a bench.

To use the Threefold Pin, you’ll press up on the d-pad combined with R1 (or your equivalent) to quickly throw a set of three daggers at once. Think of it the same way as the dagger attack of the rotund bird, only your daggers are much smaller.

Regardless, this is a nice ranged option if you ever need to chip away at an enemy’s health while keeping a safe buffer distance.

Do also be warned that each use of the Threefold Pin uses up four shell shards, which you’ll be charged for when you rest at a bench to refresh your item count back to ten.
