Baldur’s Gate 3: All Karlach Endings, Explained
Karlach has several different endings for Baldur’s Gate 3. Here’s a breakdown of them all.
One choice that you will end up having to make (unless you don’t do the romances) is who you want to romance. The normal options are Shadowheart, Astarion, Karlach, Gale, Wyll, Lae’zel, Halsin, or Minthara. However, there is a secret option—The Emperor. Here’s how to romance him.
How To Romance The Emperor
The Emperor is probably the strangest romance option out there (besides maybe Halsin as a bear), so it comes as no surprise that a lot of players didn’t know that it was really an option. The Emperor, being a Mind Flayer, isn’t exactly a choice that a lot of players wanted to make when looking for someone to romance. However, if you want the Mind Blown Trophy for the game, you will need to romance him. Here’s exactly how to do it.
Steps To Romancing Him
In order to romance The Emperor, you will need to follow a few steps. However, you thankfully don’t need to truly take his side, meaning you won’t need to be a Mind Flayer if you don’t want to. Here’s everything you need to do in order to romance him.
- Anytime you are interacting with him, be friendly. You don’t need to always agree, but always be kind.
- When you’re given the opportunity to kill him throughout the game, don’t do it. (However, you won’t be able to anyway.)
- In Act 3, you will learn he is a Mind Flayer, don’t kill him (this will lead to a game over anyway).
- You do not need to eat any of the Mind Flayer Tadpoles in the game, even the ones he gives you.
- After learning he is a Mind Flayer, he will bring you back to the Astral Plane a few nights later. Be kind to him about his loss of Duke Stelmane and help him through it.
- Visit his hideout in The Lower City when you reach it.
It isn’t known if you need to do all of these activities or just some.
After being in Baldur’s Gate a few nights, he will call upon you again and apologize saying he didn’t mean to. He will then flirt with you and you have the option to kiss him. He will then tell you that he can transform into the Dream Visitor or stay who he is. No matter which you pick, he will eventually become a Mind Flayer and your companions will be brought to the Astral Plane and see you. You will then obtain the Trophy.
