The EXO-45 Patriot Exosuit is the first player-controlled vehicle to be introduced into Helldivers 2, with the promise of many more planned for future content. But now that Tien Kwan has been liberated, and its Exosuit factories are back in full production, how exactly can players try it out for themselves? This guide delves into the details of the new Patriot Exosuit and how to best utilize it on your next mission.

The EXO-45 Patriot Exosuit is the newest Stratagem to the game, and like all other Stratagems in the game, it can be accessed via the Ship Management console. Skipping past the Ship Module tab, head over to the Stratagem tab and scroll down to the Robotics Workshop section. The Patriot Exosuit unlock can be found at the very bottom of the Stratagems tab.
In celebration of our victory on Tien Kwan, the Patriot Exosuit is available for free deploy across all systems! No word on how long this will last, but it can actually stack with your own Exosuit Stratagem, allowing you to call down multiple!
The EXO-45 Patriot Exosuit holds the highest level requirement of all Stratagems in the game (at the time of writing), requiring players be level 25 in order to unlock them. Once players reach level 25, it will cost a whopping 20,000 Requisition slips to permanently unlock the Stratagem.
Once unlocked, you’ll be able to select it like any other when deploying on a mission.
Exosuit Stats & Abilities
The Patriot Exosuit isn’t invincible, but it does feature a number of benefits that will make it an exciting addition to your typical loadout when dropping down to hostile planets.
- Uses: can only be summoned twice in a single match
- Cooldown Time: 600 sec (10 minutes)
- Armored: small arms fire seems to bounce right off, dealing minimal damage, though heavier fire and aggressive melee attacks will damage and eventually destroy the Exosuit.
- Rocket launcher and heavy machine gun attachments.
- Ammo: 15 rockets, ~1,000 for the heavy machine gun (Resupply does not restock ammo).
- Stratagems Inaccessible: other Stratagems are unavailable while inside the Exosuit, though since you could deploy Stratagems from within vehicles in the first Helldivers, it’s possible that feature could become a new fantastic Ship Module upgrade.
- Strong Melee: the mech is able to stomp when using your melee attack command. This will destroy most smaller enemy types and deal some damage to larger ones.
- No Health Bar: no visible health bar is present on the vehicle, though visual indicators, like the mech catching fire, will alert you when it is almost destroyed.

Best Time To Use Exosuit
Due to its maximum 2 uses during a mission, and the 10-minute cooldown after calling one down, the Patriot Exosuit can’t be utilized throughout a full mission — nor should it be. Like many other Stratagems, there are optimal times when you’ll want to deploy this powerful tool on the battlefield.
Its heavy machine gun can help clear out smaller enemies, while its rocket launcher can be devastating against more heavily armored targets like Bile Titans and Chargers.
While you can simply roam around the map in the mech, dealing out lead-based Democracy to everything in sight, the Exosuit does have limited ammunition, so it’s most effective during specific, strategic moments of intense combat.
Best Times To Deploy Exosuit
- Overwhelming Opposition: when coming upon a mission objective site, or when you suddenly realize you have multiple Bug Breaches/Bot Drops detected, calling in the Patriot Exosuit can mean the difference between laying waste the the enemies of Democracy and needing to tactically retreat.
- Exfiltration/Defense: Perhaps the best opportunity to utilize this Stratagem will be during extraction or when defending an objective. During these scenarios, the enemy (and perhaps Joel the Game Master himself) will throw everything they can at you for the next few minutes. The Patriot Exosuit can be intrumental in keeping the landing site clear of enemies, or giving your allies enough time to complete the objective.
