Just a few years ago, it’d have been unthinkable that A24 would be adapting a game to movie.
Anime and Death Stranding fans quickly pointed out that the silhouette matched up with the Japanese actor Kenjiro Tsuda.
Known for his voice acting in many popular animes, like JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure, Chainsaw Man, and My Hero Academia, Tsuda also voiced Sam Porter’s Japanese dub in the first Death Stranding.
It’s unclear whether Tsuda will be Sam’s Japanese dub again or have a bigger role to play in the game’s narrative as a new character.
Kojima’s announcement is reminiscent of the previous one where the silhouette turned out to be Elle Fanning; Fanning’s role is reportedly so crucial to the sequel’s narrative that if she had rejected the role, he would have had to rewrite the story.

60-year-old Hideo Kojima has no plans on jumping ship as long as his passion for creation keeps on existing.
With Gamescom starting this Wednesday, Aug. 21, Kojima’s cryptic post might be hinting at an appearance with a trailer or some announcement.
That said, Kojima is the mind behind the Metal Gear series; his actions, like his storylines, are up for interpretation, so nothing is concrete until he’s up on stage. Should he not show up, this will likely build even more anticipation for his confirmed Tokyo Game Show appearance.
Officially Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the game is slated for an unspecified 2025 PS5 release.
What We Know About Death Stranding 2 Do Far
With Kojima, knowing and understanding are worlds apart. At the moment, the fanbase can agree only on two things, more or less, the title and the unspecified release date.
The game’s first trailer was released back in 2022 with narrative and gameplay details scarce and speculation aplenty.
In it, Norman Reedus is back as Sam Porter, the only famous mailman in gaming, alongside the now grown-up weird pod-baby and Fragile from the first game. The sequel will see Sam in a brand-new location with freezing snowcapped mountains to expansive deserts to traverse and deliver packages.
The rest of the trailer is filled with weird cults, creepy processions, massive structures, souls-like bosses, unsettling enemy designs, and, of course, tentacles. We’ll leave the tying of all these dots together to someone much smarter than us.
If you’re still waiting on a surprise Mads Mikkelsen appearance during Gamescom or a subsequent trailer, you’re out of luck. Unfortunately for Mikkelson’s fans, Kojima has officially stated that he will not be coming to Death Stranding 2.
“It is because we care about the character of Cliff that he will not appear in DS2.”
It’s unclear whether Kojima is planning on gracing the Gamescom stage with an announcement of any sort. Still, posting a teaser days before one of the biggest gaming events of the year raises some hopeful eyebrows.
