Medieval Dynasty: 11 Best Settlement Locations

As the humble protagonist of the Medieval Dynasty, the player’s job is to swap their sword for a plowshare. They’ll start a farm, set up houses, and maybe even raise a family. They can build their village virtually anywhere in the open countryside, which begs the question: Where?

Some of the most popular games on the market are Base-Builders, but which games do it best?

The best spots in the game have both flat land and easy access to resources — in particular, water. Every village needs building materials such as logs and stones, as well as a bit of open area for farming. Later in the game, ores like iron, copper, and even salt come into play, for which caves are needed. Ideally, a village will have easy access to all of these things. Rather than scouring the countryside for hours to find the perfect spot, consider one of the following!

11 The Swamps

A Gorgeous Architectural Challenge

A map indicating an area in Medieval Dynasty.

  • Beautiful
  • Three nearby settlements
  • Fertile land
  • Lacks caves & mountains
  • Terrain is difficult to build on

This swamp is admittedly not the easiest spot to build a settlement, but it may be one of the most beautiful. Coming up with an interesting layout for a town in the swamps should be a fun challenge for builders, but the area is held back by a lack of late-game materials. The lack of nearby caves, along with the swampy terrain will limit your supply of rock, metal ore, and salt.

However, if one can overcome the challenges of technology, a swamp village has the potential to be something really beautiful. Despite the uneven terrain, there’s a surprising amount of open space for buildings — not to mention the fertility of the land! In addition, boar and deer are plentiful here, which will keep your village fed all year round.

10 The Mountain Clearing

The Most Scenic View Around

A map indicating a location in Medieval Dynasty.

  • Beautiful View
  • Caves and Clay Deposits
  • Near Gostovia for trade
  • Lack of Water
  • Only Predators Nearby

Building in the mountains will never be easy in Medieval Dynasty, but this spot makes it a bit easier. Just west of Gostovia, up in the hills, is an area with a relatively flat area just asking to be built on. This flat clearing in the hills also offers a scenic vista of the nearby river valley, unmatched by anything else in the game.

With a cave entrance only a short walk away and several clay deposits, this area could make a solid base for a mining operation. Its main drawbacks are its lack of access to good land, animals, and easy drinking water, but hey, who needs food or water when you have such a nice view?

9 The Mining Outpost

Late-Game Resources Galore

  • On top of a cave
  • Freshwater
  • Nearby settlement
  • Lacks reeds & clay
  • Cramped

For those looking to build their town right on top of a cave entrance, it can be tough. Caves tend to only be in rocky, mountainous areas, making themdifficult to build near. There are also often bears near cave entrances, which are deadly in the early game. If you’re determined to make a mining village work, this is your best bet.

The area does have a relatively flat spot to erect a few buildings and is a stone’s throw from nearby towns. Branica can easily be seen just over a nearby hill. It also has readily available drinking water, and deer to hunt. However, you will need to travel for clay and reeds when building.

8 The Lakeside Retreat

Beautiful For A Fishing Village

  • Plentiful wood, clay, and reeds
  • Cave in nearby mountains
  • Berries, Mushrooms, and Fish
  • Fertile Land
  • Limited Trading opportunities

For those who have ever been camping by a lake, you know how serene and beautiful it is. For a Medieval village, the lake is great for drawing water and even fishing. It sits at the base of a valley surrounded by scenic mountains. It’s also heavily forested. Trees will need to be cleared, in turn, providing plenty of materials for the town. There are even caves in the nearby mountains for when mining becomes an issue.

The only real drawbacks to building on this lake are the slight slope leading up away from the edge of the lake and the distance to nearby settlements. Most things can still be built, but the slope might be slightly annoying for some players. It also may take you a day’s travel to reach nearby settlements, which can hamper trade.

7 The Isolated Cave

Perfect For A Mountain Man Roleplay

A map indicating an area in Medieval Dynasty.

  • Nearby Cave for Mining
  • Many animals to hunt
  • Not very Fertile
  • Cramped
  • No nearby settlements

Here we have one of the more beautiful cave-side locations in the game. Ordinarily, there would be no reason to consider this spot. It’s hilly, making it a bit tougher on which to build. It’s also a long walk away from the nearest town. The main reason to come here is the conveniently placed cave entrance nearby. Not only is it convenient, but a stream that flows from its mouth adds to the area’s beauty.

This is a great spot for anyone looking to set up a town in the mountains. It may be tough to turn it into a bustling metropolis because of the terrain, but there’s just enough flat area here to make something workable. In addition, you can hunt a variety of animals for food, such as deer, rabbits, wissent, wolves, bears, and boar. This helps to offset the area’s lack of forageables.

Rebuild An Abandoned Camp

  • Medium-sized building area
  • Convenient Cave
  • Hunt Rabbit and Wissent
  • Hornica nearby for trading
  • Near an abandoned camp
  • Many Wolves and Bears

While the Foothills may escape the average player’s notice due to its location in the southeast of the map, it shouldn’t be ruled out as a settlement location for players who enjoy a good roleplay. This site is home to an abandoned camp on the eastern side of the lake, where it seems someone tried to set up a mining town before being chased off by the area’s dangerous wildlife. The area just to the north of the camp is flat, and well-placed for a settlement if someone is willing to give the area another go.

Enter your Dynasty, here to make it work this time. Utilize the readily available fresh water, fertile land, clay deposits, and nearby cave to set up a lucrative trading operation with nearby Hornica. Hunt the nearby rabbits and wissent for food, and if you’re brave enough, take down the bears and wolves on the southern side of the lake. Enjoy the feeling of succeeding where someone else failed, and thriving in these dangerous conditions.

5 The Crossroads

The Trader’s Paradise

A map indicating an area in Medieval Dynasty.

  • Plenty of space for building
  • Centrally located for trade
  • Fertile Land
  • Hunt deer, boar, and rabbit
  • Lacks Caves or Mountains

Anyone looking for an open, flat area to build a large town needs to look no further. This riverside location is at the intersection of several roads and bridges. The roads all lead to northern towns nearby: Denica, Rolnica, Branica, and Baranica. With so many neighbors, this bustling village will never be left without a trading partner.

The rivers are great for both fishing and drinking water. Also, because the area is essentially a peninsula that’s surrounded by water, the land is incredibly fertile for farming. The only real downside is the lack of access to rocks and caves, but this can be somewhat overcome by building an excavation shed or buying needed resources.

4 The Woodland Waterfall

A Split Level Village With A View

  • Lots of flat, fertile land
  • Easy hunting
  • Access to wood, clay, rock, and reeds
  • Near Gostovia for trade
  • No caves

East of Gostovia, a small stream feeds into the main river. Not far upstream is a gorgeous waterfall that feels tailor-made to be a near-perfect settlement spot. Whether building in the small, scenic area at the foot of the waterfall or in the big fields at the top, it’s tough to go wrong with this wooded location.

In addition to its nice scenery, the waterfall area has plenty of access to resources. It’s heavily forested but also near some rocky, mountainous terrain. The flat area at the top of the waterfall is very fertile, a great spot to set up a farm. Plus, having Gostovia within easy walking distance is a nice bonus.

3 The Flat Valley

Plenty of Building Materials

A map indicating an area in Medieval Dynasty.

  • Convenient access to wood, stone, clay, and reeds
  • Nearby cave for Mining
  • Lesnica nearby for trade
  • Many Predators
  • Not ideal for farming

This well-rounded settlement spot, situated in a forest clearing, is one of the best. It has a large and relatively flat buildable area, with only a gentle slope leading down to the side of the stream. It’s a short walk away from two nearby towns– not to mention the cave entrance nearby.

There are several beautiful, massive, and useful settlements in Fallout 4, but here are some of the best that the game has to offer.

While this area isn’t the most scenic spot in the game, its easy access to mountains, woodlands, and caves makes it very convenient for building. As far as downsides go, other resources can be a bit scarce. There is little opportunity for fishing, and the land isn’t as fertile as you’d hope for farming.

2 The Great Lakes

Building A Bread Basket Dynasty

A map indicating an area in Medieval Dynasty.

  • Incredibly Fertile Land
  • Easy Hunting and Fishing
  • Berries and Reeds to Forage
  • Two nearby settlements
  • Lacks a nearby Cave or Clay Deposits

Toward the eastern edge of the game map is a gigantic lake. The lake is surrounded by lush greenery, and while it is slightly hilly, there’s a perfect flat area by the side of the lake for building. Here, players can forage for berries, hunt boar and rabbits, or set up fishing operations to feed their people. The area is also very fertile due to the large amount of nearby water, meaning you’ll easily produce an excess of crops.

As far as trading, this location isn’t lacking. The nearby villages of Borowo and Sambor are only a short walk away, and both of them make excellent trading partners. The only real drawback to this area is its lack of access to clay and caves, which you’ll need to offset through Excavation Sheds.

1 The Idyllic Lake

A Well-Rounded Starting Location

A map indicating an area in Medieval Dynasty.

  • Beautiful View
  • Hunting and Fishing of all kinds
  • Two nearby settlements
  • Access to wood, reeds, stone, and ore
  • No Clay Deposits nearby

This may very well be one of the most scenic areas in the entire game, and since it’s far out of the way, players can easily miss it. Even for those who don’t set up shop here, it’s worth a hike out for the view. This lake not only features fertile farmland, plentiful reeds, and a relatively flat area for building, but it also has plenty of rocks, woodland, and access to nearby mountain caves.

Across the lake, a waterfall is surrounded by tall pine trees and rocky mountains. As a lakeside area, it has ample opportunities for fishing and hunting. It’s also close to two nearby towns (Hornica and Jezerica) without being directly on top of them, which is nice. However, you will notice a lack of clay deposits, which hurts until you get an excavation shed up and running.
