Modder Finds The Answer Why Oblivion Remastered Feels Easier
If you play Oblivion Remastered right now, it’s in a weird place where the “Adept” difficulty seems a tad too easy, while hiking the difficulty up one tier to “Expert” makes fighting even simple enemies a slog.
As it turns out, it’s all due to multipliers players deal with and receive. Modder IxionXVII’s “Difficulty Slider Fixed” mod (via PCGamer) is out now for PC players, and it’s a mod that includes options to customize the RPG’s difficulty to your preferred kind of pain. Not only that, but the mod maker has also detailed the changes in the difficulty modes and what’s going behind-the-scenes.
In Adept difficulty, the settings apply a flat multiplier to the damage you deal and receive which is 1x/1x. However, in Expert, this has a huge jump to the damage players take, while damage dealt doesn’t scale up. Here’s a breakdown of each difficulty mode and how the multipliers work.
Oblivion Remastered Difficulty Multipliers:
- Novice: x0.167 damage received, x6.0 dealt
- Apprentice: x0.286 received, x3.5 dealt
- Adept: x1.0 received, x1.0 dealt
- Expert: x3.5 received, x0.286 dealt
- Master: x6.0 received, x0.167 dealt

As the numbers show, there is a huge gap between each difficulty setting. Thankfully, the mod will let you find adjust the difficulty to your liking without having fights feel meaningless, or get beaten to a pulp by every lowlife you come across. Of course, console players don’t have this luxury, though we’re hoping Virtuous/Bethesda releases a patch to help fix this little issue.
Same with any mod, be cautious in installing unofficial files into your game and PC. While this one seems innocent enough, there was a patch released by a controversial modder that broke the game, so make sure to do your research before downloading and installing anything.
