Phasmophobia Finally Has A Release Date For Consoles

Kinetic Games has finally set a release date for the console version of its popular horror title, Phasmophobia. According to a new blog post on the game’s Steam page, Phasmophobia will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in October as part of the game’s Halloween event for 2024.

The studio initially set out to release Phasmophoba on consoles in August of 2023, but due to a fire that broke out in Kinetic Games’ office building, the release was delayed to October. As October rolled around, the studio was forced to once again delay the release due to “unforeseen challenges” brought on by adapting to the new remote working life due caused by the fire.

Kinetic Games delayed the console release indefinitely, refusing to lock in a new date for the launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. “While we had hoped to present you with a special launch alongside the Halloween event, the complexity of our current challenges means we need more time,” the studio announced last year.

Now, almost a year on from the originally proposed release date, Kinetic Games has confirmed exactly when console players will be able to jump into the hit horror multiplayer title.

“We’re thrilled to announce that the console update will be released this year, during our in-game Halloween Event,” the studio said in a new blog post. While an exact date for when the Halloween event (and accompanying console release) will kick off wasn’t shared, fans can expect it to arrive sometime in October, likely in the second half of the month if previous events are anything to go by.

Kinetic Games went on to confirm that, once launched, all players will have access to cross-play, allowing them to play the newest version of the game with everyone, including those using VR on any platform.

“We are collaborating with Unity to work on the console release, as well as general performance optimisations for both console and PC, this will ensure that the console update runs optimally and to the high standards that we set for the game. Working with them means that we can work alongside them on new content for all platforms, allowing faster development of new updates,” the Phasmophobia developer said, before confirming that all future updates will be released on all platforms simultaneously to ensure that cross-play is always available.
