Psychological Horror Sequel Finally Gets PS5 Release Date

There’s no shortage of horror games on the PS5, but more often than not, it’s one that has you facing hordes of zombies or one that has you fending off numerous enemies with whatever weapon you can scrounge up.

However, for those craving something more intimate and cinematic, there’s one game that’s headed to the PS5 this August that might catch some people by surprise.

Long-Awaited Action Game Finally Goes On Sale For First Time In PSN’s Mid-Year Promotion

This action game, released last year, is a title many people have been waiting for to receive a price reduction.

Why? That’s because the game was a former Xbox first-party exclusive.

This Psychological Horror Game Might Scare Gamers On A Different Level

Announced for a PS5 release last month, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is a (former) Xbox-exclusive developed by first-party studio Ninja Theory. It’s now confirmed to be headed to PS5 on August 12, 2025.

Hellblade 2 is the latest confirmed former Xbox-exclusive that’s now jumping ship to the PS5, as part of Microsoft’s multi-platform strategy. Officially titled Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced, the game’s Standard Edition will be out for $49,99. If you already own the game, a free title update is headed out on August 12 for Xbox and PC gamers which will slot in the Enhanced new features.

There’s also the Deluxe Edition, which will include Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice optimized for PS5 for $69.99. Not only that but it will also include the first game’s original soundtrack. If you own the game on PS4, you’ll be able to upgrade to the Enhanced version of the game for free.

Another new week is about to start, and that means another slate of fresh new games is about to be served by Sony on the PlayStation Store for both the PS4 and PS5.

If you’re wondering how the game will be enhanced, Microsoft has detailed that as well.

Gamers can expect Performance Mode, which will run the game at 60 frames-per-second (not available on Xbox Series S). On PC, players can expect a “Very High” preset that will push fidelity even further.

An optional game mode will also be added called the Dark Rot, which should be something familiar for those who played the first game. In this mode, each time the player fails, the Dark Rot — which is inside her — will grow, and if it reaches Senua’s head, it’s game over.

Enhanced Photo Mode will be part of the package, which will include an all-new “Motion” tab for custom cinematic video captures.

Finally, Ninja Theory has even added developer commentary of over four hours from the developers, who discuss the creative decisions that went into making the game.

The game’s psychological twists and turns are examined in one of our video features where we try and understand Senua’s trauma. Given the game’s initial struggles in the sales charts, this re-release on PS5 should significantly boost those sales numbers.

One of the key reasons it had a tough time nailing an audience at launch back last year? Some fans say it’s because of Microsoft failing to market it properly. Hopefully that won’t be the case with the Enhanced edition on the PS5.
