Square Enix's 'Triangle Strategy' Returns to Nintendo Switch eShop

It’s a sigh of relief for Triangle Strategy fans as Square Enix availed the tactical RPG once again on the Nintendo Switch eShop. It had been the latest game to be delisted from the virtual store, and players feared it would take months to reappear.

The Japanese developer provided no grounds for the title’s removal back in November. However, it returned with the publisher updated to Square Enix in what looks like a repeat of what happened with Octopath Traveler.

Square Enix’s Prospects with Triangle Strategy

Square Enix developed Triangle Strategy in collaboration with Artdink, releasing it in 2022 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. The gameplay is set in the world of Morzelia, where you need to strategize a victory plan against three powerful nations. You heavily rely on grid-based combat to move units, make the tough calls, and plan your fate in the land divided by conflict.

The change in Triangle Strategy to publishing rights affirms the publisher’s shifted focus away from exclusive deals. It also aligns with previous announcements disclosing intentions to bring more of its titles simultaneously on other platforms.

Old Square Enix games like Parasite Eve and Brave Fencer Musashi could use a fresh coat of paint.

Publishing rights let Square Enix decide future updates, including the much-anticipated games enhancement from the HD-2D versions. Ports to Xbox and PlayStation consoles are also highly likely if this goes the Octopath Traveler way. While other titles like Bravely Default 2 remain under the Nintendo banner, they too could face similar updates.

Despite these transitions, Square Enix and Nintendo’s bond remains intact, stemming from their long history of collaboration. Triangle Strategy is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro.
