Sensex Today: The equity rally is getting stronger by the day as we move towards drawing curtains on 2023. Key benchmark indices claimed fresh all-time highs in early hours of Thursday as global rally continued across markets. The S&P BSE Sensex hit a record high of 72,272, while the Nifty50 touched 21,728-mark.
At 9:18 AM, the Sensex index was at 72,258, up 220 points or 0.3 per cent. The Nifty50, meanwhile, was at 21,719, up 64 points.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were holding gains of 0.4 per cent each.
Among sectors, the Nifty PSU Bank index was up 0.97 per cent and was the top gainer on the NSE. This was followed by the Nifty Metal index (0.87 per cent), and the Nifty FMCG index (0.4 per cent).
Global Cues
Elsewhere in Asia, ASX200 and Kospi were up 0.4 per cent each, while Hang Seng added 0.3 per cent.
Nikkei, on the other hand, was down 0.4 per cent.
Overnight, the S&P 500 inched up 0.14 per cent in the US, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.16 per cent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3 per cent.
On Thursday, oil prices, foreign fund flow, and F&O expiry of the December derivatives series will guide the markets.
