Every Mystic Spearhand Augment, Ranked

Highlights

  • Conveyance is pointless since no one needs to carry items extensively in the game, offering minimal benefit for gameplay.
  • Polarity requires altering playstyle by time of day for only +5% boost, making it a hassle rather than worthwhile.
  • Athleticism is the best augment, reducing stamina use for dashing by 10%, a crucial improvement for long traversal in DD2.

Mystic Spearhand is one of the best vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 with incredible mobility, spammable low-stamina cost skills, and high knockdown power. This vocation is able to deal with threats in melee and from range with no issues.

Here’s everything you need to know about DD2’s NG+.

Perhaps to balance the class’s incredible prowess in all other areas, Capcom has seen fit to give Mystic Spearhand a collection of not-that-great Augments obtained via level-up. We’ve combed through the Augments effects to rank them from least desirable to most. Here is the list.

5 Conveyance (F-Tier)

Description

Hastens movement speed while carrying or lifting (+10%).

Conveyance solves a problem no one has: carrying people. There is no point in the entire game when you’re forced to carry people or items in any real capacity.

The only scenarios I can conjure up where this Augment’s effects have any appreciable effect is when you’re either carrying a barrel of oil or explosives to throw at something or when the person you’re escorting during a quest becomes stuck and unable to follow you because of buggy pathing.

While these scenarios are not uncommon, having additional movement speed while carrying out these tasks maybe saves 60 seconds in an entire playthrough. You’re likely to save more time finding and switching to this Augment. There is no reason to ever have Conveyance equipped when there are always better options to take up the slots.

4 Polarity (D-Tier)

6

1800 Dcp

Description

Augments your Strength during the day and your Magick anight (+5%).

Polarity is a weird one because it doesn’t work for any vocation other than Mystic Spearhand and maybe Warfarer, depending on your loadout. It is situational in the extreme as you need to alter your playstyle by time of day to get the most out of this Augment, which is more of a hassle than it’s worth.

The boost to strength and magick it does offer need to be vastly better than a measly +5% for it to make sense, even for the Mystic Spearhand. Some of the harder fights, like those against Drakes or lesser dragons, can take up to a whole in-game day, which makes even attempts to use this Augment to nudge a hard fight in your favor unreliable.

3 Refulgence (C-Tier)

8

Dcp

3000 Dcp

Description

Increases the amount of rift crystals obtained when acquiring rift fragments and the like (+5%).

Refulgence gives you +5% RC every time you do an activity, which would result in you getting RC anyway. Not only is the increase insignificant, but RC as a whole doesn’t really matter all that much to begin with. Rift Crystals, or RC, are the currency used to hire strong Pawns to aid you in your journey. Earning RC is one the easiest things to do in DD2, as it just sort of happens. Everything from pawn quests, activating riftstones, and opening chests gives you a decent amount of RC, which quickly accumulates over time.

Rings offer various bonuses to the Arisen and their Pawn, with two being equipped at a time. Here are the best rings in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Not to mention that in a normal playthrough, it’s hard to spend more RC than your earn even if you try your best. Pawns the same level as you cost nothing to hire, the ones a level higher than you cost 31 RC, and the ones two levels higher cost 68 and so on. You never really want to hire Pawns that are significantly higher level than you which makes RC not that valuable a currency.

2 Opulence (B-Tier)

Opulence augment in dd2

Opulence is a bit misleading in what it does, and you have to pay attention to what it is being said to understand what this Augment does. If you have Opulence equipped, every time you pick up a coin pouch, you’ll get 5% more gold from that pouch. This means that if a coin pouch had 100 Gold originally, you’d get 105.

What’s important here is that this only works with coin pouches. Gold obtained from chest and quest rewards – which is a majority of where all gold comes from – isn’t affected by this Augment. Now, unlike RC, more gold is always welcome, no matter where it comes from and how little the influx is. Opulence is a good placeholder Augment to put on if you have nothing better to slap on there. Some gold is better than nothing.

1 Athleticism (S-Tier)

9

Dcp

5000 Dcp

Description

Reduces Stamina consumed while dashing (-10%).

Perhaps as a payoff for a string of lackluster Augments for Mystic Spearhand, Athleticism is arguably the best Augment in the entire game. The number one complaint players are likely to have while playing DD2 is the high Stamina cost of running from point A to point B.

With the extreme restrictions on fast travel and the big open world, you’ll be doing a lot of dashing from the start of the game to the very finish. This Augment makes this core part of the gameplay loop less exhausting to deal with. Athleticism should be your first choice for an Augment slot every time you switch to a new vocation. It’s just that good.
