Hollow Knight: Silksong: Crawbug Clearing Quest Guide

Crawbug Clearing is an Act 1 side quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong, where the main objective is to gather 25 Ragpelts. Doing so will allow Creige to build a scarecrow at the Halfway House, preventing the birds from swarming his building.

The game provides decent clues on how to complete this quest, such as in the quest description, but they are still somewhat vague and can be confusing. To find the Ragpelts, you need to go to a specific location and defeat a specific type of enemy.

How to Start the Crawbug Clearing Quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Players can start the Crawbug Clearing quest after defeating the Widow boss in Bellhart and freeing Bellhart’s citizens from their web captivity. This boss becomes available after defeating Sister Splinter in Shellwood and acquiring the Cling Grip.

Once you beat Widow, interact with the Wish Board next to the shopkeeper in Bellhart. This Wish Board only appears after freeing all the citizens from the webs.

There will be a handful of quests available on the Bellhart Wish Board, such as Crawbug Clearing, My Missing Courier, and Rite of the Pollip. For this guide’s sake, navigate to Crawbug Clearing and accept the quest.

While you can accept the Crawbug Clearing at the Wish Board in Bellhart, the quest doesn’t really start until you speak with Creige at the Halfway House.

Make your way to the Halfway House in Greymoor and speak to Creige behind the counter, who will tell you that he needs 25 Ragpelts to build a scarecrow.

How to Find Ragpelts in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Ragpelts are dropped by the green bird enemies in Greymoor. While you can grind the green birds above the Halfway House, by defeating them and then resting on the nearby save bench, this actually isn’t the fastest method. Tiny green birds only drop one Ragpelt.

I recommend going further east of the Halfway House to find the larger-sized birds that drop more Ragpelts upon defeat.

The two green birds you should look out for are the fat one that throws projectiles and the one with a sword. Each of these birds drops up to four Ragpelts when defeated.

Luckily, these larger green birds respawn whenever you rest at a save bench, making it a great way to farm Ragpelts until you reach the required number of 25.

Once you have collected the necessary 25 Ragpelts for the Crawbug Clearing quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong, return to Creige at the Halfway House and hand over the Ragpelts. Doing so will conclude the Crawbug Clearing quest.

Crawbug Clearing Quest Rewards

After handing over the 25 Ragpelts to Creige at the Halfway House, he will be very pleased with your efforts. In return, Creige will give you the Crafting Kit Expanded item.

The Crafting Kit Expanded is “a pouch for holding traps and tools, and fine crafting implements to increase their lethality.” In other words, the Crafting Kit Expanded increases the damage of your Tools, helping you kill enemies faster.

There are four Crafting Kits to find throughout your journey in Hollow Knight: Silksong. This is indicated by the “Tool Damage” meter at the bottom of the Tool Pouch & Crafting Kit item in the inventory menu. The Crafting Kit Expanded given by Creige will increase this meter to two white circles out of four.
