Remastered Gets Surprise Release On Digital Storefronts

Announced earlier this year, Nightdive Studios has surprise-launched (otherwise known as a shadow drop) The Thing: Remastered today on consoles and PC. Originally released over 20 years ago on the PS2, the remaster gets updated visuals and trophy/achievement support on PlayStation and Xbox platforms.

Nightdive Studios has also released the game’s launch trailer with the shadow drop, in which we see the updated visuals done via the studio’s proprietary KEX Engine.

In The Thing, players will step into the boots of Captain J.F. Blake, the leader of a United States Army Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the events that transpired in the original The Thing movie, which originally played in theaters over 40 years ago, in 1982.

While the movie was critically slammed when it was released, it has since garnered a cult following and is usually mentioned when it comes to the best horror films of all time. It is also considered one of John Carpenter’s best works in his long and storied career.

The Thing video game was released way back in 2002 on the PS2, and was considered to be a tough challenge to finish. It also managed to avoid the pitfalls of being deemed a “shovelware

game, as back then, games based on movies were usually low-effort cashgrabs intended to suck in unsuspecting consumers.
