One of the biggest reasons Baldur’s Gate 3 is such an excellent game is the literal hundreds of unique interactions and dialogue options presented to the players at every turn. These choices range from which class to choose for a character to maybe it’s a good idea to have a Bard you just met use a rusty knife to dig into your skull (Hint: It is!) Abdirak is a Loviatar worshipper you meet during Act 1, and the choice he offers you is on the stranger side of things.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of secrets and missables. Here are the merchants that can be missed.

Players will encounter Abdrirak in the Shattered Sanctum, at the heart of the Goblin Camp where Halsin has been imprisoned. If you talk to him near the altar before killing the Goblin Leaders, he’ll offer you a unique choice: let Abdrirak hit you to receive something called ‘Loviatar’s Love’ or say no. Players faced with this choice might be wondering if it’s worth it to take the masochistic route and let him have his way with you.

What Happens If Abdirak Hits You

If you agree to Abdirak’s proposal of getting hit by him, he will strike you three times. Each strike will be a separate dice roll, and if you succeed in all three, Abdirak will give you the Loviatar’s Love permanent bonus: If your health falls below 30%, you get +2 to all Attack Rolls and Wisdom saving throws for 3 turns.

Even though this is technically a permanent bonus, it will stop working if the character that has it dies and is revived.

Every time Abdirak hits you, you’ll have two options:

  • Pass a Performance/Intimidation check.
  • Fail a Constitution Check while remaining above 40% health (If you succeed in the Consitution check, Abdirak stops.)

If you succeed in fulfilling either of these conditions for all three turns, Abdirak will reward you with the Loviatar’s Love condition. If you fail, he will simply stop.

Should You Kill Abdirak

Yes, you should. The Loviatar’s Love condition is permanent; killing Abdirak does not affect it. And even if you don’t kill him, he does not appear again in Act 2 or Act 3. He also drops Loviatar’s Scourge, an Uncommon Mace that deals an extra 1d6 Necrotic Damage on top of its base damage, as well as a scroll of Hold Person.
