What’s The Best Starter To Catch?

There is a lot that Palworld is borrowing from Pokemon, and the similarities are pretty much around every corner. From the mechanics of capturing your Pals to the sheer amount of Pals that you can find in the game, it isn’t shying away from the source of its inspiration. But not everything is the same exact thing, as is the case with finding a “Starter” Pal for you to begin your journey with.

The game does not have its Professor Oak to give you three options right away; instead, it’s up to you to find the one you want to use, but with some very heavy prodding to choose from a specific set of Pals. You see, theoretically, you could capture any Pal you see as soon as you start, but a lot of Pals are of a higher level, meaning you would have to level up your character before being able to capture them. But there are a small few that are not at a high level, and these are the ones that this guide will be looking at.

What’s The Best Starter To Catch?

When the game first begins, there are three Pals that will be at the Level 1-2 range, which makes them far easier to catch than any other ones. These Pals are Lamball, Cattiva, and Chikipi. These three Pals are all adorable little creatures that each serve a unique purpose and come with their own special skills, tools and active/passive skills.

Cattiva – The Cat’s Pajamas

This feline Pal is a Neutral type, and comes with the following Work Suitability:

• Gathering
• Handiwork
• Mining
• Transporting

Cattiva will drop Red Berries over time and consumes 2 Food every time it eats. Its Partner Skill is called Cat Helper, which means that whenever it is on a team, it can help carry supplies, meaning that you have an increased Carrying Capacity with it. Its Active Skill is Punch Flurry, which has it chase after enemies and repeatedly punch them to do damage.

Chikipi – Plump & Juicy

This chicken-themed Pal is a Neutral type and comes with the following Work Suitability:

Chikipi will drop Eggs and Chikipi Poultry over time and consumes 1 Food every time it eats. Its Partner Skill is called Egg Layer, which has it occasionally laying eggs when it is assigned to a Ranch. Its Active Skill is Chicken Rush, where it where it flies at an enemy that it can see and barrages it with attacks from its beak.

Lamball – Big Floof

This fluffly, little sheep Pal is a Neutral type and comes with the following Work Suitability:

• Handiwork
• Transporting
• Farming

Lamball will drop Wool and Lamball Mutton over time and consumes 2 Food every time it eats. Its Partner Skill is Fluffy Shield, where it becomes a shield for the player to use and block damage. It also will sometimes drop Wool while assigned to a Ranch. Its Active Skill is Roly Poly, with which it curls into a ball and rolls after any enemy in its way.

Nox – Dusken Aristocrat

Nox is a Pal that you can only find at night, which many of you might miss due to the natural propensity to sleep through the night in the game. However, it can be a good idea to prepare your character with some warm clothing or a torch to survive the colder weather conditions to venture out and see what Pals you may be missing, like Nox.

This Dark-type Pal is a great option as it is easy to find early on in the game and provides a great Pal Skill of Kuudere, which applies Dark Element damage to your attacks when fighting together.

Daedream – Dream Eater

Another Pal that only comes out at night, Daedream can be a potent ally when you first start out in the game. This is largely because of the the Daedream Collar you can craft for it, which allows Daedream to float alongside you at all times, shooting powerful spells at enemies, and even more, it will be untargettable the entire time.

Which One To Choose?

While each of the Pals offers its own abilities and advantages, as of now, Cattiva is the best option to choose from when you begin the game if you are looking to build your camp out.

This is largely due to its abilities. You are going to be mining and gathering resources a lot in this game, and if you are going to survive, you will need to be the most efficient at this part of the game. Cattiva offers you the most support in this area by its Work Suitability focusing on those areas and also being able to carry more resources for you.

However, if you are wanting to be a powerful combatant to tackle all the enemies with ease, then Daedream is your choice, as it provides some borderline-broken attacks that make it so that you won’t even have to lift a finger in a fight. That’s not an overstatement.

Of course, you can go out and capture all of these Pals to get the best of everything — and you should! Collecting Pals is the best way to level up quickly.
